Tough land, soft fibre

Lets talk about cotton! The fluffiest ball you've probably never met!

Along with it's best friend, the Ladybird, together with the power of friendship they form a textile powerhouse!

From off the branch to clothes you wear, or oil we cook in this little fluff ball does it all.

Let me get you up to speed on how we get this versatile plant from the ground, to around you!

HOW DO WE HARVEST COTTON?

Let's break it down, how did you get that ball of cotton in your hands?

PREPARATION

In September we prepare our biggest tractors with the cotton planters to plant the cotton. And we plant those rows of cotton!

FIRST LEAVES

10 Days later little seedlings start to emerge from the ground!
They start as 2 little leaves and a stem.

BRANCHING OFF

The cotton starts branching into little forks called “nodes”. Growing bigger and bushier every day!

WATERING

All growing plants need water, cotton is no different. The process for watering cotton is longer than just pouring some water on it.

WEEDING

With the water boost, the cotton drinks it all up and gets a growth spurt!
Unfortunately, so do the weeds around it, it’s tractor time with the cultivator!

FINAL STEP

When the cotton has fully grown, we send the planes up to spray them with a special blend that makes the leaves fall off.
So all we’re left with is the cotton “bolls” on the plant.

HARVEST TIME

We attach our cotton pickers to the tractors and send them through the fields.
We then send the cotton bales off to be turned into your favourite shirt, or pants!
